Joe Norris – Landscape Artist Surrey
Joe Norris was born and grew up in rural Kent, surrounded by orchards and hop gardens. As a young teenager, he painted fields of hop poles, oast houses, and village scenes, many of which he sold to local people.
After leaving school Joe studied Art at Maidstone College of Art and then at The University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he focused on graphic arts and photography, achieving a BA honours degree.
After a career in photography, illustration and design and marketing, he now paints and exhibits regularly. He is a member of Tadworth Art Group, a long-established and prestigious group of highly talented and experienced artists. He has won several awards at their bi-annual exhibitions, including the popular vote, and The Artist Magazine and The Pullingers best in show awards several times.
2020 – Pre-selected for the annual New English Art Club (NEAC) exhibition at The Mall Galleries, London.
2025 – Wildcard contestant on Landscape Artist of the Year – Heat 5 on board HMS Wellington, London.
He runs popular weekly mini-workshops for painters in various locations around Surrey, including Headley, Bookham, Bletchingley and Stoke D’Abernon.
He is inspired by rural and urban landscapes and figurative subjects such as crowds, people and animals. He is drawn to the unusual, and has a particular admiration for surrealist art. His ethos is that all art has its own value, and if it strikes a chord or beautifies, it has its place.
Joe lives with his wife and dog in Walton on the Hill, Surrey, and regularly travels to find new inspiration. He spends a lot of his time in Cornwall, and his work often features Cornish coastal subjects. He also often visits European countries such as Spain, Greece and Italy.
Joe is available for private tutoring and demonstrations to art groups by arrangement. Recent demos and workshops for Tadworth Art Group, Caterham Art Group, Epsom & Ewell Art Group and Marlow Arts & Crafts Society.
